What's the difference between a banner and an affiliate program?

From what I understand is that affiliate program is the promotion of one company's product or service through the website of another company.

I know this can be confusing, trust me I was there once, just couldn't tell the difference.

In brief, an affiliate program is a mean through which owners of products and services offer other people to market and promote their products to buyers and then you get paid if you manage to send visitors who then buy those products and services.

Now a banner is one of the advertising and marketing tools that one can use to refer visitors to the site where they can be able to buy those products.

Of course there are many other aspects that goes to this whole process

The basic idea behind affiliate programs is that when you become an affiliate (also called a referrer, reseller or associate), a partnership is created with the merchant â€" the owner of a product or provider of a service. Once you as an affiliate refer a customer to the merchant and the customer makes a purchase, you get a percentage of the sale (a commission).

If you have a website, placing a banner on your site is one way to market a merchants product. A banner is simply a graphic, usually a square or rectangular.
